Burzum "Belus"

So what am I to say? To act oblivious or ignore it seems foolish yes? I will have no impact on Varg getting paid. Will Varg's views keep you from buying this? Or just the fact that he hasn't done anything great in a long time? I actually thought of not posting this, especially in light of the enlightened views recently shared here by Fauna, Skagos, and the like... but spirited discussion never hurts I suppose.

Well, if you want it, preorder here.

"It’s been 11 long years and now the world will finally see the return of Burzum. The highly anticipated new album is entitled Belus after the name of the ancient European solar deity of light and innocence. Belus is Burzum’s 8th studio album, and the sound and music of the new album can best be compared to the music of some of the old Burzum albums; in particular the ground breaking Hvis Lyset tar Oss and the atmospheric brilliances of Filosofem, only the ambient parts present on these albums has been almost completely left out on Belus. Belus is a hard hitting and melodic guitar driven album and will firmly keep Burzum at the helm of the metal / black metal scene and arguably his best album to date.

Burzum says of the new album and his style of music:

"My ambition with Belus is to create something I -- and hopefully others too -- can listen to for years and years to come without ever growing tired of it, and at the same time to share with my audience the experience of getting to know Belus, as he might have been perceived by the ancient Europeans”.

“I am aware of the black metal association with the name Burzum, and I have no real and serious problem with that, but I personally see no reason to place Belus in any category. I think Belus musically transcends all existing categories, but if I have to choose one -- and for the sake of simplicity -- I will simply place it in the metal category".

Almost tempting... double 180-gram vinyl.

No thanks, though. I'll not share my dollars with Varg. He'll do fine without me, which is sad in itself.

I may download it when it's out there. And I stress "may."

i buy from music featuring a guy who runs a certain record label that fucks people over with shitty mail order service and sometimes sells crackly, shit vinyl. i might as well buy the new burzum if it's good. no sense in having a double standard.

Never ceases to amuse me how someone can get so hysterical about spending their money on a record by someone with nationalist and racialist views but they don't think there is anything wrong with spending their money on a record by some misogynist thickhead. Good ol' hypocrisy.

Exactly what anonymous said. People need to stop acting so self righteous, as if bashing Varg makes them superior moral creatures. Everyone who ridicules Varg, do so out of ignorance and fear. Varg has always gone against the status quo and is more of an individual than most could ever hope to be. I also have to laugh at the people who demonize this man, yet after they're done with their rants, will comment "he makes genius music".

Bah bah bah cries the sheep.
