Recent Releases on Hospital Productions

Just want to write a few words about some recent releases on Dominick Fernow's Hospital Productions label to catch anyone up who may be out of the loop.

What I'm most excited about is what I just found in my mailbox yesterday: the long awaited compilation White Eye of Winter Watching. It was conceived during the blizzards of the winter of 2010 while Dom was laid up in bed with the flu. Listening to some old tape compilations and reading on 20th Century Russian history gave birth to the idea of constructing a double-cassette compilation of the various genres that Hospital has so righteously explored. The list of artists is immense, but the highlights include Genocide Organ, FFH, Controlled Bleeding, Contrepoison, Vatican Shadow, The Grey Wolves, Con-Dom, Lussuria... and on and on. To see the full tracklisting, check it out here. A limited special edition sold out quickly, but the standard double cassette edition is still available here. It's a bit pricey - $25 for two tapes, but well-worth every penny. Did you see the list of artists who have contributed? The limited edition was $100... and like I said, sold out real quick. This has been on sale for while, so I can't imagine many are left.

The latest CD releases from Hospital are also available if you scroll down the page linked above. CDs from Emil Beaulieau, Ahlzagailzehguh, and Viodre. If you're into noise, these should intrigue you. The Emil Beaulieau CD (Moonlight in Vermont) even prompted one of my coworkers (whose favorite band is Incubus, mind you) to ask me to burn him a copy of the disc for him. Emil Beaulieau has been at this for a long time, and this is seriously one of his best. This CD is a reissue of an album that was issued on CDr/LP back in 2005/2006. Nicely done. The Viodre disc (Interpol Alchemy) is subtle noise (I guess it depends on how you define subtle, when it comes to noise), but an amazing album nonetheless. Hospital hails it as one of the best noise albums of all-time. The Ahlzagailzehguh album (Memory and Hearing) is highly challenging, but the pay-off is immense. A collage of various kinds of noise, it takes a lot to sit through this just once (nearly an hour long). But with repeated listens, I really think you could come to love this as I have. At times subtle, and at times quite harsh, it will fuck with your head. My advice is to clear your head of any sort of expectations, and go into this with an entirely open mind. Great, great album if you can give it what it deserves. You can buy each of these CDs individually, or but all three at a significantly reduced rate. Buy all three, you won't regret it.

Hospital has also made a lot of their recent releases available digitally via Boomkat, iTunes, Amazon, and other sources. I'd highly recommend you check out the latest from Vatican Shadow. A lot of people really love the Washington Buries al-Qaeda Leader... releases, but for my money, Pakistan Military Academy is where it's at. All of them are great, but these two are seeing VS soar to new heights.

Enjoy.

discogs says there are 1000 copies of the comp, so that's probably why there are still some available. that is, if discogs is correct.
