Fermentæ is the solo project of HSS friend Kevin Gan Yuen, who is also one third of blackened noise trio Sutekh Hexen and the man behind Viraloptic.
This is a terrific tape of ambient music - somewhat dark at times, and rather bright and illuminating at others. Said to be nature-inspired, the sounds on this cassette do indeed conjure images of the natural and cosmic. To give us an idea of the concepts and ideas behind the music, the label writes, "Culturally, the glossolalic denotes an act synonymous with the phenomenon of purportedly speaking in tongues, which, in turn, constructs a new mode of articulating thoughts by uttering words rooted in an unknown language. Disclosing sonic, yet speech-like syllables exercised in a ritualistic context, FERMENTÆ "Glossolalia" inculcates an idea of language that reintroduces the threat and allure of the magical." Kevin is awesome, and has been a great supporter of HSS, so it comes as no surprise to us that there is in fact something magical about this tape. But don't take our word for it; listen to some excerpts below, and be prepared to be mesmerized.
