SIGE Records Contest

Our friends over at SIGE Records have some new releases coming out in October, and to help promote these releases and the upcoming tours of two SIGE artists, we've teamed up with them for this awesome contest.

SIGE Records is handling the vinyl edition of Menace Ruine's newest record, Alight In Ashes, which we can't wait to hear. The other new releases are limited edition cassettes with hand-sewn booklets. The first is a two-cassette set which includes Jodis' first album, Secret House, and their new album, Black Curtain, and is limited to 75 copies. The second cassette is the Mamiffer/Pyramids split, limited to 100 copies and featuring two tracks from Mamiffer ("Sophia" and "Tichá Noc") and one track from Pyramids ("This Is One For Everyone").

The Menace Ruine album with be available on CD from Profound Lore and on vinyl from SIGE on October 2nd. Jodis' Black Curtain will be available on CD and vinyl from Hydra Head on October 2nd, and the Secret House & Black Curtain tape set will be available from SIGE on October 16th. The Mamiffer/Pyramids split will also be available from SIGE on October 16th, and will be available later this year on CD and vinyl from Daymare Japan and Hydra Head, respectively.

We've got a few prize packages lined up for this contest.

  • Grand Prize: Menace Ruine Alight in Ashes LP, Jodis Secret House & Black Curtain 2xCS and Mamiffer/Pyramids split CS.
  • Second Prize: Jodis Secret House & Black Curtain 2xCS and Mamiffer/Pyramids split CS.
  • Third Prize: Menace Ruine Alight in Ashes LP.

To enter the contest, leave a comment with a response to this question:

"What is the original meaning of SIGE?"

If your comment contains spam or links to anything, it will be deleted, and will not be counted toward the contest. Don't forget to let us know how to contact you, in the comment. The winners will be chosen at random on Saturday, September 15th.

SIGE Records artists Mamiffer and Menace Ruine will be tour various parts of the world over the next few months. Mamiffer will be joined by Jon Mueller in Japan, and Joe Preston and B.R.A.D. in Europe. If they're in your area, be sure to check them out and tell them we sent you.

silicon germanium
(SiGe) A semiconductor material made from silicon and germanium. Germanium is very similar to silicon, but when one layer is grown on top of the other to form the base of the transistor, the resulting transistor can switch faster and yield higher performance.

SiGe transistors are compatible with standard fabrication processes and are built on the same chip with silicon transistors to create high-frequency circuits. Only a handful of SiGe transistors are used in mobile phones, while tens of thousands are used in optical switches, DACs and ADCs. See silicon and strained silicon.

I haven't checked other languages, thiniking it's an English acronym or abbreviation.

I believe it is victory or triumph. If the wind blows north and spreads its ashes on our enemy the sige belongs to that our purses.

sige is the goddess of great silence.
she represents that words create duality between the spoken and unspoken word.that in silence we find our true origin and self.quiet is the omnipresent power that gives birth to wisdom.

also loving the silicon/germanium fuzz reference!

'Sige'(Greek): Silence; one of the fundamental hypostases in early Gnosticism. The gnosis was said to rest on a mystic square whose angles were sige (silence), bythos (the deep), nous (understanding), and aletheia (truth). In the Valentinian theogony, bythos and sige are the primordial binary.

SIGE is derived or rather actually is the Goddess of Silence. Now if you ask a Latino, they'll tell you it means "GO!" without the U...and I should know.

"Sige" is the Danish word for "say." Granted, with the subtle nature of SIGE Records's catalog, the use of the word "say" is ingenious. Let the silence between the notes speak.

SIGE means Silence In Glorious Expansion. It pays tribute to Angerona, the roman goddess of silence and relief. The one who kept the sacred name of the famous city away from the knowledge of their enemies.

Sige means "silence" in Greek and it's the name of one of the thirty two Aeons or "emanations" from God, in Gnosticism. It's quite an interesting concept, as everything related to Gnosticism.

This is funny, I thought it was just a phonetic spelling of “Siege” and now I feel very wrong (due to most other comments being a much more thoughtful and deep interpretation).
